About the course

UWS’s BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching will help you develop the skills and expertise required to become a professional sports coach.

This degree has been developed in partnership with sports governing bodies, sporting organisations and coaching professionals to ensure that you develop knowledge and hands-on practical experience relevant to the modern sports, health and fitness industries.

Excellent industry connections provide work-based learning opportunities and offer links to attain coaching qualifications.

Minimum Entry Requirements

  • Scottish Highers: BCC (69 UCAS Tariff points) including 1 science or PE
  • A levels: DDD (72 UCAS Tariff points) including 1 science or PE
  • Irish Leaving Certificate: H3 H3 H3 including 1 science or PE
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: 27 points (3 @ HL) including one science or Sports, Exercise and Health Science
  • Scottish Wider Access Programme: Access to STEM or Access to Humanities or Access to Life Sciences BBB (all including PE and English ( or Communication 4 and Literature 1) units at SCQF Level 6
  • SQA HNC or BTEC Level 4 HNC: Coaching & Developing Sport or Sport Coaching & Development or Fitness, Health & Exercise or Applied Sports & Exercise Science or Physical Activity & Health (for SQA awards, with Grade B in Graded Unit)
  • Scottish Advanced Highers: BBC (136 UCAS Tariff points) including English, PE and one science
  • A levels: BBC (112 UCAS Tariff points) including English, PE and one science
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: 30 points (3 @ HL) including one science or Sports, Exercise and Health Science
  • SQA HNC / BTEC Level 4 HNC: Coaching & Developing Sport; Sport Coaching & Development; Fitness, Health & Exercise; Applied Sports Science/Applied Sports & Exercise Science; Physical Activity & Health (for SQA awards, must have Grade A in Graded Unit)
  • SQA HND or BTEC Level 5 HND: Sports Therapy† (for SQA awards, must contain Grade B in Graded Unit)
  • SQA HND or BTEC Level 5 HND: Applied Sports & Exercise Science or Coaching & Developing Sport or Fitness, Health & Exercise or Sport Coaching & Development or Physical Activity & Health (for SQA awards, with minimum CA / CB in Graded Units – all SCQF Level 8 Graded Units must be at Grade B, or above). NB: for SQA HNDs with 3 Graded Units then the following minimum grade combinations will apply: CAA / CAB / CBB

† HND Sports Therapy is not eligible for consideration for Year 3 entry
