About the course

UWS’s BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching programme will help you develop the skills and expertise required to become a professional sports coach.

This programme has been developed in partnership with sports governing bodies, sporting organisations and coaching professionals to ensure that you develop knowledge and hands-on practical experience relevant to the modern sports, health and fitness industries.

Excellent industry connections provide work-based learning opportunities and offer links to attain coaching qualifications.

Programme Highlights

  • This programme is offered at UWS’s state-of-the-art Lanarkshire Campus and elements are delivered at the Emirates Arena – a world-class sports facility built for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and home to sport.
  • UWS has excellent links with a number of sports organisations, including St Mirren Football Club, South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture Trust, and Netball Scotland, who provide work-based learning opportunities.

Entry Requirements

  • Scottish Highers: ABBC (108 UCAS Tariff points) including English, PE and 1 science
  • A levels: CCC (96 UCAS Tariff points) including English, PE and 1 science
  • Irish Leaving Certificate: H3 H3 H3 H3 or H2 H3 H3 H4 or  H2 H2 H4 H4 including Biology or Human Biology
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: 27 points including English, PE and one science at HLevel
  • Scottish Wider Access Programme: Access to STEM BBB or Access to Humanities BBB or Access to Life Sciences BBB, all including PE and English ( or Communication 4 and Literature 1) units required at SCQF level 6
  • SQA HNC or BTEC Level 4 HNC: Coaching and Developing Sport or Fitness, Health and Exercise or Sport and Recreation Management (may be eligible for Year 2 entry)
  • Scottish Advanced Highers: BBC (136 UCAS Tariff points) including English, PE and one science
  • A levels: BBC (112 UCAS Tariff points) including English, PE and one science
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: 30 points including English, PE and one science at HLevel
  • SQA HNC / BTEC Level 4 HNC:
    Coaching and Developing Sport or Fitness, Health and Exercise or Sport and Recreation Management (for SQA awards, must have Grade A in Graded Unit)
  • SQA HND or BTEC Level 5 HND: Applied Sports Science or Coaching and Developing Sport or Fitness Health and Exercise or Sport and Recreation Management  or Sports Therapy (for SQA awards, must contain Grade BB in Graded Units – may be eligible for Year 3 entry) or
  • SQA HND or BTEC Level 5 HND: Applied Sports Science or Coaching and Developing Sport or Fitness Health and Exercise or Sport and Recreation Management (for SQA awards, must contain Grade AA in Graded Units)
