About the course

UWS’s BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science will equip you with the skills and experience needed to play a vital role in modern health care provision.

This degree has been developed to provide a pathway to help you become a professional biomedical scientist. You’ll complete modules in biology, chemistry and statistical analysis – which will underpin your knowledge and understanding – before progressing to study advanced aspects of biomedical science.

Biomedical scientists play an essential role in the identification of diseases and improving the provision of healthcare.

Minimum Entry Requirements

  • Scottish Highers: BCC (69 UCAS Tariff points) including Biology or Human Biology 
  • A levels: DDD (72 UCAS Tariff points) including Biology or Human Biology
  • Irish Leaving Certificate: H3 H3 H3 including Biology or Human Biology
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: 24 points (3 @ HL) including Biology or Human Biology
  • Scottish Wider Access Programme: Access to Science or Access to Medicine or Access to Radiography or Access to Biological & Chemical Sciences or Access to Chemistry and Biology or Access to Health & Life Sciences or Access to Health & Biological Sciences or Access to Dietetics, all must include Grades BBB
  • Scottish Advanced Highers: BBC (136 UCAS Tariff points) including Biology
  • A levels: BBC (120 UCAS Tariff points) including Biology
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: 30 points including HL Biology and Chemistry
  • SQA HNC / BTEC Level 4 HNC: Applied Science or Biomedical Science or Applied Biomedical Science or Industrial Biotechnology
  • SQA HND / BTEC Level 5 HND: Biomedical Science or Biological Science or Applied Biological Sciences
