About the course

Get ready to pursue a career in the zoological sciences with UWS’s BSc (Hons) Applied Bioscience & Zoology degree.

You’ll receive a grounding in biological and environmental science before progressing to study more advanced bioscience topics.

The programme will equip you with the practical and transferable skills for a rewarding career in the life sciences sector in Scotland or abroad.

Our highly qualified and experienced team will deepen your understanding of bioscience and the range of career options and professional accreditations available to you upon graduation.

  • Field work is a key feature of this course, with a number of day trips and a residential marine biology field trip in Year 3.
  • Students have undertaken placements at organisations such as Blair Drummond Safari Park, Amazonia and Scottish SPCA.
  • Lectures from industry professionals will help you to understand how you can transfer and apply theory in real-world situations.
  • This programme is fully accredited by the Royal Society of Biology and upon completion you will meet the academic requirements to be an Associate Member.

  • Scottish Highers: CCC (63 UCAS Tariff points) including Biology or Human Biology
  • A levels: CC (64 UCAS Tariff points) including Biology or Human Biology
  • Irish Leaving Certificate: H3 H3 H4 including Biology or Human Biology
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: 24 points (3 @ HL) including Biology or Human Biology
  • Scottish Wider Access Programme: Access to Science BBB or Access to Medicine BBB or Access to Biological & Chemical Sciences BBB or Access to Chemistry & Biology BBB or Access to Health & Biological Science BBB or Access to Radiography BBB or Access to Dietetics BBB or Access to Health & Life Sciences BBB, all including Biology or Human Biology
  • Scottish Advanced Highers: BBC (136 UCAS Tariff points) including Biology
  • A levels: BBC (112 UCAS Tariff points) including Biology
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: 30 points including Higher Level Biology
  • SQA HNC / BTEC Level 4 HNC: Applied Science or Bioscience or Animal Care
