Where are you on your clearing journey?

UWS is my firm choice

Check UCAS Track. This will show information on your offer and give you further instructions.

UWS is my insurance choice and I want to come here instead of my firm choice

  • Step 1. Contact us on 0800 027 1000 to confirm we have a place for you
  • Step 2. Contact your firm choice and ask to be released into clearing
  • Step 3. Check UCAS Track for an update on your application status
  • Step 4. Once unconditional at UWS you will receive joining instructions by email

Didn’t get the results you needed? Don’t panic!

  • Step 1. Check UCAS Track to see if the decision status has changed to unconditional. If it has, you will receive joining instructions via email
  • Step 2. If the decision status is still conditional, please contact us on 0800 027 1000. The admissions team will be working through applications as quickly as possible. Please check UCAS Track for updates
  • Step 3: If your application is unsuccessful as a result of not achieving the grades, please review the clearing options available to you on UCAS or on our website

I did better than expected (adjustment)

If you get better results than you were predicted, UCAS offers the opportunity to reconsider your options, termed adjustment, allowing you to swap your course.

Adjustment is available from A Level results day on 15th August until 31st August following the steps below:

  • Step 1. Check UCAS Track to see if you are eligible to enter Adjustment
  • Step 2. Click the ‘find out about and register for adjustment’ link on UCAS and you’ll find information to register for adjustment
  • Step 3. Contact UWS on 0800 027 1000
  • Step 4. Contact your firm choice and ask to be released into clearing
  • Step 5. Check UCAS Track for an update on your application status – our admissions team need to confirm your place
  • Step 6. You will be sent joining instructions via email

I’m a new applicant

  • Step 1: Contact us on 0800 027 1000 to discuss your options, or check our clearing website for vacancies
  • Step 2: If we have spaces on your course and you meet the requirements, you can apply through UCAS Track (if you have not used UCAS to apply to university in 2018, you can apply directly through the UWS application system)
  • Step 3: Check UCAS Track to review the status of our offer
  • Step 4: If successful, you will be sent joining instructions via email

Frequently Asked Questions

> Applying through clearing

  • You will receive an update on UCAS Track on the day the offer is made. You will then receive the UWS confirmation email the following day.

  • Log into UCAS Track and check that you have added the course and institution details to your clearing application.

    Please note that some updates occur overnight, so please allow 24 hours for your application to be processed.

  • Yes. The clearing drop-in sessions are at our Paisley Campus and Lanarkshire Campus on Thursday the 8th and Thursday the 15th August from 2pm – 7pm.

    Our student recruitment team and ambassadors will be on-hand to give you advice, and let you know more about your potential study options. More details on how to register for either of these drop-in sessions will follow shortly.

> What happens next?

  • You have 24 hours to confirm your offer through UCAS Track.

    You’ll need to log onto your UCAS account to confirm this before the offer expires.

  • After you have accepted your place to study at UWS, we will send all the necessary information you’ll need, by email, including information about our welcome and induction programme.

> Accommodation

  • Check out our Accommodation webpages if you are keen to get a space in the UWS residences whilst studying at university.

> What happens if I change my mind?

  • Please contact our applicant enquiry team on 0800 027 1000 or email to find out if there is availability on an alternative programme. As demand is really high for places at this time of year, our programmes become full very quickly.

  • If you are already unconditional firm at UWS on a programme commencing in September 2018, you can request to defer your place until 2019 by emailing

    Please make sure to include your UCAS ID in your email so that we can help you as quickly as possible.

  • Yes – contact our applicant enquiry team on 0800 027 1000 or email for guidance on withdrawing your application.

> Funding

  • To find out more about the various funds and support towards tuition fees and living costs please visit Money, Fees & Funding section of our website.
  • Yes. You will need to call your relevant student finance organisation. Make sure that you have all paperwork and identification to hand as it will help speed up the process.

Lines are open from 8.45am to 4.45pm Monday to Friday with extended hours on the dates below. Whilst our lines may be busy during results day, our advisors will do everything they can to answer your call as efficiently as possible, so you shouldn’t be waiting too long.

  • Tuesday 6th August – 8.30am-6pm
  • Wednesday 7th August – 8.30am-6pm
  • Thursday 8th August – 8.30am-6pm
  • Friday 9th August – 8.30am-6pm

From Monday 12 August and onwards: 8.45am – 4.45pm

Clearing drop-in sessions

Our clearing drop-in sessions will be taking place simultaneously at both our Paisley and Lanarkshire campuses on Thursday 8th and Thursday 15th of August from 3.00 – 6.00pm.

Our student recruitment team and ambassadors will be on-hand to give you advice about your potential study options and what you are eligible to apply for.

If you already have your results, we’ll even be able to take you through your UCAS application if you wish to apply on-the-spot.
