About the course

Our Physics with Nuclear Technology programme has been developed to provide graduates with the knowledge necessary for a career in the nuclear industry or nuclear research.

The programme will cover core physics subjects, including:

  • Wave motion
  • Classical mechanics
  • Quantum mechanics
  • Electromagnetism
  • Atomic, nuclear and particle physics
  • ThermodynamicsIn addition, the programme has a focus on nuclear science and technology including:
  • Imaging and nuclear medicine
  • Applications of nuclear physics
  • Nuclear and particle physics
  • Research topics in nuclear physicsYou will graduate from the programme well- equipped for a career in nuclear power, nuclear medicine, environmental monitoring, fundamental and industrial research, or nuclear decommissioning.

Entry Requirements

  • Scottish Highers: BBC (75 UCAS Tariff points) including Maths and Physics or BCC (69 UCAS Tariff points) including Maths (Grade B), plus SQA National 5 (Grade B) / Intermediate 2 (Grade B) Physics or CCCC (84 UCAS Tariff points) including Maths, and plus SQA National 5 (Grade B) / Intermediate 2 (Grade B) Physics
  • A levels: CD or CC (56-64 UCAS Tariff points) including Maths and Physics
  • Irish Leaving Certificate: H3 H3 H3 H4 including Maths and Physics 
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: 24 points
  • Scottish Widening Access Programme: Access to Specialised Programme BBB
  • Scottish Advanced Highers: CCD (112 UCAS Tariff points) including Maths and Physics
  • A levels: BCC (104 UCAS Tariff points) including Maths and Physics
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: 28 points 
  • Scottish Baccalaureate: Science – applications considered on an individual basis 
  • SQA HNC / BTEC Level 4 HNC: Physics or Applied Sciences or other relevant discipline
  • BTEC Extended Diploma: DDM – applications considered on an individual basis 
  • SQA HND / BTEC Level 5 HND / Foundation Degree: Physics or Applied Sciences or other relevant discipline
